INTA Committee meeting discussion on the state of play of the modernization of the Energy Charter Treaty

As EPP Standing Shadow on investment policy, Prof Hübner will emphasize the urgent need for clarity on the path forward on the modernization of the Energy Charter Treaty. Since the Council blocked the modernization in November 2022, the way forward is unclear and uncertain. Prof Hübner will share the only sensible way forward she envisage to get out of this roadblock.

ECON Exchange of views with Fabio Panetta, member of the ECB Executive Board, on the Digital Euro

Fabio Panetta, member of the ECB Executive Board and Chair of the Task Force on Central Bank Digital Currency, will inform members of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) of the European Parliament about the progress made regarding the digital euro project. Professor Huebner will share her thoughts on the use cases of a digital euro, and will emphasise the importance of the wholesale digital euro. She will also emphasise that EU authorities should commit to create a framework for the digital euro open to future innovations.

Presentation of the study on “Recent trends in UK financial sector regulation and possible implications for the EU, including its approach to equivalence”

Members of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) of the European Parliament will exchange views on the future of EU and UK financial services after a presentation of the study on “Recent trends in UK financial sector regulation and possible implications for the EU, including its approach to equivalence”. Professor Huebner will reflect on how Brexit poses unique challenges for policymakers in the EU as the most important financial centre in Europe is now outside its regulatory framework, whether divergence over the medium- to long-term will become a reality, and what impact it will have on the competitiveness of EU market participants. She will also offer further reflections in the context of her work as Rapporteur on the review of the Markets in Financial Instruments Regulation (MiFIR) and of the European Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR).

Participation to panel on the MiFIR Review at the EUROFI 2023 High-Level Seminar in Stockholm

Professor Huebner will participate to a panel on the Markets in Financial Instruments Regulation (MiFIR) Review at the EUROFI 2023 High-Level Seminar in Stockholm. As the European Parliament’s Rapporteur for the review, she will provide an overview of the progress of discussions at the level of the European Parliament on the Consolidated Tape as well as on market structure issues, including equity and non-equity transparency and the ban on the practice of payment for order flow (PFOF).
