Opening of negotiations for an EU-US Critical Minerals Agreement

As EPP INTA Shadow Rapporteur for relations with the United States, Prof Danuta Hübner will welcome the opening of the negotiations. She will ask that all minerals listed in the IRA are covered in the final agreement and regret that the Commission’s mandate does not explicitly include recycled raw materials in the scope of the negotiations. Concluding the EU-US Critical Minerals Agreement would allow EU mining and chemical companies to benefit from this, and incentivize more investments and economic activity in the EU to help the US satisfy its demand.

ECON Hearing on EU-UK Regulatory Cooperation Framework

The Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) of the European Parliament will hold a hearing to discuss the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) establishing a framework for financial services regulatory cooperation between the European Union and the United Kingdom. MEPs will exchange views with the Commission regarding the future cooperation between the EU and the UK. During the hearing, Professor Danuta Huebner will reflect on what the recent developments with respect to the MoU mean for the competitiveness and economic growth of both the EU and the UK. In particular, she will ask whether the Commission plans to prioritize these issues within its regulatory framework, similarly to what the UK has done in reframing the mandate for the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
